About 2,600 years ago, Shakyamuni (Gautama Siddhārtha) was born in Nepal and achieved the highest enlightenment of mankind and became Buddha, the gawakened one.h The philosophy of his great wisdom and compassion has spread across Asia, and has greatly influenced the region's cultural development. As a world religion, Buddhism has saved many people from the world of suffering and guided them to the height of enlightenment throughout ages and across boundaries.
The Nepal-Buddha Pavilion was founded to celebrate the cultural and artistic aspect of Buddhism, which has supported the heart and soul of people throughout history. In the center of the pavilion, we have rebuilt and preserved the Nepalese Temple (Harati Mata Temple) which was exhibited in the Nepal Pavilion at the 2005 EXPO Aichi, Japan. This temple is found on the premises of Nepalfs oldest Buddhist temple, Swayambhunath, which stands in the Kathmandu Valley, a world heritage site.
Happy Science has great respect for Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, and at our foundation is the Buddhist spirit. We wish to carry on the great achievements of Buddha through the preservation and spreading of Buddhist culture and its art, and therefore we are currently opening the Nepal-Buddha Pavilion to the public.
Furthermore, we hope that your visit to the Nepal-Buddha Pavilion will forge close ties of international cultural exchange between Japan and Nepal, which have enjoyed a friendly relationship for over a century.
We sincerely thank the Embassy of Nepal for providing us with valuable cultural assets and support, and all the people who have aided us in building the pavilion.
Happy Science
